Leicester City Announce The Signing Of The World Cup Winner; How This Will Be A Brilliant Addition To The Foxes
Leicester City have announced the signing of German goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler from Hannover 96 for an undisclosed fee. The 27-year-old was a member of the German squad who were crowned World Champions in 2014. The amazing and unbelievable title win from Leicester City is still fresh in our memories and the Foxes are clearly looking to build on their success next season which is visible from the deal for a player like Zieler.
Zieler, a former Manchester United trainee, has committed his future to Leicester City by signing a four-year deal to stay at King Power Stadium until 2020. The German international was ever-present for Hannover in their last five Bundesliga campaigns making as many as 221 appearances in the process. The 27-year-old was beaten 343 times and holds 48 shutouts which is not the worst considering how much open the game is in the Bundesliga.
Zieler is capped six times for the German national team. With a certain Manuel Neuer featuring for the Die Mannschaft, getting even six caps is huge. The 27-year-old will be joining his former Manchester United colleagues Danny Drinkwater, Matty James, Danny Simpson, and Ritchie De Laet at Leicester City.
One question that might strike your mind that "why Leicester City are moving for another goalkeeper despite having a sensational goalkeeper in Kasper Schmeichel?" Well, it is not at all surprising that the Foxes want to bring competition for places that will extract the best out of each individual at the club. Goalkeepers are not also an exception.
Many big clubs are nowadays looking to have two top-class goalkeepers at the club at the same time. Just take Barcelona for an example. The Catalan giants have two solid goalkeepers in Claudio Bravo and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and both of them are clearly deserving of first-team football. However, Barca uses the former as the League goalkeeper whereas the latter is used mostly as a Cup goalkeeper i.e. in Champions League and Copa del Rey. Leicester City are also going in the same direction as it seems.
Even if Zieler is assigned the duty of just a Cup goalkeeper, he can play a decent number of games in the Champions League, FA Cup, and League Cup. At the same time, Leicester will have a brilliant backup for Schmeichel who will push the Dane to keep up his amazing form like this season. It is a big statement from Leicester City to bring the World Cup winner at King Power but there has to be similar competition for places in every position.
